Hours before husband shot wife and himself, Pasco deputies determined no danger

LAND O’LAKES — Pasco County deputies visited the home of Glenn and Michele Meyer on Monday morning after receiving a report that someone was having a "mental health crisis" but decided no one was in danger.

They noted that there was a handgun in the home and that the woman said she wanted to leave her husband.

Twelve hours later, the Sheriff’s Office said, Glenn Meyer shot his wife in the head, turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.

The husband, 75, died at their Land O’ Lakes mobile home on the 2900 block of Jabud Lane. The wife, 74, was taken to a hospital, where she was expected to survive.

According to communications records obtained from the Sheriff’s Office, two deputies were dispatched to the property at 10:13 a.m. to check on a woman having a "mental health crisis" who was arguing with her husband.

The caller said a .38-caliber revolver was in the home.

When they arrived about 10:25 a.m., deputies listened to Glenn Meyer describe his wife’s "issues." He told them his wife’s son had been spending her money and that he had told her not to talk to the son anymore "because he has been trying to move her out," the records show.

Michelle Meyer told deputies she was trying to get a divorce but that her husband was stalling so he could take her money.

"There was nothing physical," a deputy noted, according to the records. "Both parties advised it was a civil issue due to finances."

About 11 a.m., the deputies cleared the case. At 10:07 that night, someone reported the shooting.
